Building Healthy Soil
Building healthy soil is the foundation of our recipe for healthy plants. Fourteen years ago Avant introduced composting as part of our recycling plan. We recycle garden waste into a rich soil blend for a variety of uses in the landscape. When mixed with composted horse manure from local farms, the soil we install is rich in microorganisms, and ready to grow robust plants with little additional input.
Our mulches are blends of cocoa bean shells — a bi-product from chocolate processing — shredded hardwood mulch, and horse manure, thereby adding to the cycle of composting and soil conditioning that gardens need.

Greens and other produce is watered and composted
Sod and small brush is piled and turned often
The debris is then set out in rows, each row is covered in seaweed and red worms. It is then turned weekly for 7 weeks as it advances rows.
